IGFA Ranks Huites #1 Bass Lake in the World!

Lake Huites is RED HOT!

February producing huge bass

When a group of businessmen from the US formed a company and bought a controlling interest in a fishing lodge deep in the mountains of Mexico, we did so because we felt strongly that this lake hidden deep in the mountains of central Mexico could and would become the best bass lake ever. I love it when a plan comes together!

This season has been the best season we have seen yet, and February has been simply incredible! As of this update, there have been an estimated 18 bass caught over ten pounds. What is even more amazing is that during this same timeframe, we have had approximately 42 clients at the lodge. Now that is some amazing odds! While Huites has always been known for producing incredible numbers of bass, it has also not disappointed on this front. On a recent February trip with two clients from Minnesota, they took thier frozen frustrations out on an incredible 305 bass, just on the first day!

If your thinking about taking a bass fishing excursion to Mexico, you should take a hard look at Lake Huites and Trophy Bass Lodge. We operate a small, first class lodge and let those clients who have fished Lake Huites do our talking for us. We still have some good availability for the remainder of March, April and May, and we are already booking folks for next season. Because of our small size (we can accommodate up to 14-16 anglers at a time) dates are booking up quickly. So don't procrastinate.....book your trip ASAP!

DO NOT USE TUNGSTEN WEIGHTS WITH BRAIDED LINE!
Over the last two years, I have been experiencing unexplainable breakoffs with braided line. After talking with some anglers that fished the BASS event at Lake Falcon, we have determined that the tungsten weights are decreasing the integrity of the braid at the top of the hook. If you are fishing with braid, I would recommend staying with standard lead weights

TRAVELING TIPS
Here are some traveling tips from lessons learned! Try to pack all tackle in your checked baggage. It is becoming more difficult to get hooks through the security checkpoints. Make sure to leave at least 1 1/2 hours to catch your connecting flight once you arrive from Mexico, it can be time consuming to come through US Customs. Don't take any fluids over 3 ounces in your carry on, and if you do pack them in a zip lock. If you buy Tequila, Vanilla, or other liquids to bring back form Mexico, make sure you purchase them in the airport. Also make sure to have the agent from the Duty Free Store meet you after you give the ticket agent your boarding pass. In Mexico they recheck your bags at the gate, and will confiscate any liquids over 3 ounces. It is ok by the airlines for you to receive the fluids past the boarding area.

Bassmaster Magazine features Lake Huites in December Edition!

The word is out - Lake Huites is the hottest bass fishing destination in the world! In the December edition, B.A.S.S. and Bassmaster Magazine recognized Lake Huites as the hot spot in Mexico!

By James O. Fraioli
BASSMASTER Magazine, February 2008

For more than two decades, Mexico has been a popular destination for American bass anglers in search of schools of trophy largemouth bass. Unfortunately, many of the once fabled Mexican bass impoundments no longer live up to their legendary reputations. In the last five years, however, one lake has emerged to help restore the mystique of south-of-the-border bass fishing once again — Lake Huites.

Nestled deep in the foothills of the Sierra Madre's, a one and a half hour car ride east of El Fuerte, Lake Huites is a crown jewel for avid anglers. Constructed for irrigation in 1991, the 30,000-acre man-made reservoir is home to rapid growing, aggressive Florida-strain largemouth bass. Without question, these bass have taken a liking to the mountainous climate, long growing season and an abundant, protein-rich diet of tilapia and shad, making Huites an uncrowded and largely untapped resource. The lake is loaded with ideal cover and hungry bass. This affords anglers the opportunity to use a variety of lures and fishing techniques to land the fish of their dreams. When conditions are right on Huites, it's not uncommon to hook into more than 75 bass a day, including 10-plus-pound monsters.

Typically, early morning hours on Huites offer fantastic topwater action. The best baits seem to be Pop-R's, Zara Spooks and buzzbaits. As the sun rises overhead, switch to a deeper approach using spinnerbaits, worms and crankbaits. For some reason, Huites' largemouth, especially the lunkers, are attracted to the Fat Free Shad crankbaits. Cast these hard plastics toward points, canyon walls, humps and submerged brush as you prospect for the large schools that are commonplace on Huites. Find the right structure and you might land 30 fish averaging in excess of 3 pounds, in 35 casts. For real trophy bass action, target the deep water using big crankbaits, swimbaits and soft plastics.

Welcome to Trophy Bass Lodge, an incredible lodge located on the shore of Lake Huites. TBL is owned and operated by the Trophy Team, a unique group of Americans dedicated to bringing the finest bass fishing in Mexico to you. The members of the Trophy Team are fishermen, businessmen, and most importantly sportsmen who have a love and passion for Mexico and it*s incredible bass fishing. When you book with the Trophy Team you can be confident you are dealing with folks you can trust.

This "Gem of the South" is located just northwest of the town of Choix, Mexico, in the beautiful State of Sinaloa. Lake Huites has a maximum depth of 210 feet and was created by damming the Rio Chinipa and Fuerte rivers. This Lake is 4500 feet above sea level and at full pool in the fall, this 30,000-acre lake is 18-miles long in one direction and 15 miles long in another. After the dam was finished, subsequent stockings with pure Florida Strain Largemouth Bass have created a Bassin' Factory that can produce staggering catch rates. This beautiful Lake has over 100 miles of shoreline to fish and has every conceivable structure a bass could want. Once called the "Mystery Lake", this beautiful body of water is literally loaded with Bass... GIANT BASS!

From early October until December, the bass at Huites move up on the banks and school heavily. My best days numbers wise have occurred during this period, with 250 fish a day possible if you are on your game. You usually have your choice of baits during this period, with topwaters, jerkbaits, crankbaits and plastics all being good choices. Beginning in January the bass begin to make the move into their pre-spawn mood, where they stack up in the coves, pockets and secondary points in five to ten feet of water. Then there is the classic spawn beginning in mid February, and going on through March when the Big Girls are busting with eggs and are willing to hit most anything that is worked slow and deliberate. It is important to note that the spawn in Huites is not typical of those occurring in the United States. The fish here spawn much deeper, and it is rare to actually be able to sight fish for spawners. This is the case at many Mexican bass lakes. During April, May and June, the angler can expect to get into some good numbers and really Big Fish in the post spawn, by fishing the many bald points in the lower lake with big spinnerbaits, deep crankbaits, and swimbaits. The swimbait technique that is now used on many lakes in Mexico was started right here on Lake Huites, and right here at Trophy Bass Lodge. Giant Bass in May, now that's the ticket for some heart stopping action that most Bass fishermen are missing out on. Of course, you can head to the canyons almost any month of the year at Lake Huites and catch huge numbers of the smaller two to five pounders.

Lake Huites, is a Catch and Release lake. While there is a ridiculous amount of fish in Lake Huites, it is those double-digit fish with superior genetics that we must preserve for the future of Lake Huites. However, when you catch to fish of a lifetime, simply take a photo of their trophy, weigh the fish and measure the length and girth, then slip her back in the water to live and grow. Once you do that I can have a replica of your fish mounted for you by some of the best Taxidermists in the U.S.A.! They are guaranteed for life and they look like they just swam out of the water!
No matter what time of the season you decide to fish Lake Huites, it will be a trip you will not forget for a long, long time! Trophy Bass Lodge Anglers enjoy fishing from sturdy American-made Boats. Each boat is outfitted with four stroke outboards, trolling motors, Dual batteries and Dual gas tanks. They come equipped for traditional Bait Casting or Fly fishing and all boats have Coast Guard approved Life jackets, Nets and an onboard ice chest full of your choice of Beer, bottled water and Soft Drinks!

Your seasoned professional local guide sits in the rear of the boat out of the way so that you will have plenty of room to utilize whatever technique is your strength. These guides live right there near Trophy Bass Lodge, and know Lake Huites like the back of their hand, and I will assure you that they will do everything in their power to put you on the fish. They also untangle your professional overruns, and show you what lures and presentations work best on the day and in the area you are fishing.

There's nothing on earth like sinking the barb into a really World Class Bass, and Lake Huites is just the place to experience Explosive Bassin' any time of year! When's the last time you caught a Bass in Double Digits? Well, fishin' at Lake Huites is the chance of a lifetime to get that wall-hanger.
